Prologue
A book written, never to be published, is a manuscript of passion, pleasure and release. Humble living, spiritual solvency and a steadfast refusal to contain the joy of expression made writing this possible. Motorcycles have long been a part of my life leading to friendships and experiences most other life paths cannot match. The motorcycle as a steel horse ridden by men who accept the challenge of the elements with the risks to reach a higher sense of self are a curiosity in our sensible world. High Road to Taos is an actual road, full of curves, small sleepy towns, wonderful sights and a favorite amongst riders in the local area. It brings you into villages, settled centuries ago by the Spanish and reflects those times even today. The road wanders into the small town of Chimayo, which has the El Santuario de Chimayo, a Catholic Church built in 1816. The Church is a very Holy place hosting a pilgrimage each Easter by followers who walk great distances to reaffirm their faith. The Church is rumored to have healing soil from its back room and is considered the most important Catholic pilgrimage in our Country. Penitentes, a secret society who believe in self flagellation amongst other physical torment in order to achieve penance, have a strong presence here. It is on this road the adventure begins, a journey of deep spiritual reflection, adventure, love and passion. One man finding himself in a world of people looking, a story without an end. It is a tale of friendships, forged in the iron of motorcyles, that are enduring, heartfelt and a true spiritual journey.
